Expect to be treated badly and you will fare well
Have had a terrible experience at this hospital. The staff is all unionized and they don’t care about patients. There are good doctors here but the support staff is terrible. Food is terrible and they give you a menu that states all food is fresh and made from scratch. B.S. Everything has preservatives and salt. The carrot stick are brown. Just awful food. You expect bad food in a hospital. Don’t give them a menu saying it is all fresh. Marketing. The worse part is the filth in the rooms. I am 70 and have been to many hospitals. None have been this dirty. Lack of concern for a patient. I will NEVER come back here. 20 hours and I can go. I will kick the dust off my sandals and keep going. The staff doesn’t care about the patient. I am surprised! If you come here bring food for yourself.

I've tried calling patient advocacy multiple times, and have not heard back
I've was diagnosed with a serious health issue and have more questions than answers as this point, two months since original diagnosis. I had to have an invasive test done in the hospital and experienced complications immediately following the procedure and in the following days. I don't feel like those issues were taking serious by the doctor who was in charge of the procedure, even after there seemed to be signs showing something was wrong after the procedure. These complications resulted in a visit to the ER, having to stay overnight in the hospital to be treated, and another medication needing to be taken for 6 months. The doctor treating me for this condition doesn't seem to listen to me when I'm talking with him. At this point I've lost all confidence in my doctor and the treatment plan. I contacted the patient advocacy group over 2 1/2 weeks ago to discuss these concerns and was told they would contact the department of the doctor treating me, mark the message as urgent, and I should hear back. It's 2 1/2 weeks later, I haven't heard anything from the medical dept. I've tried calling patient advocacy multiple times, at different times, left messages, and have not heard back from them either. To say this is a disappointment, is an understatement, not to mention the unneeded stress negatively effecting my condition.

Worst hospital. Won't recommend anyone.
My husband was diagnosed with reoccurance testicular cancer and they suggested to do Bone marrow transplant. He was in patient during this time. He was admitted on 26th of Dec 2024 and supposed to be discharge on 10th of jan 2025. Due to high dose of medicines which created small bowel obstruction. He passed away on 17th of January 2025. Even nurse of ICU was giving different reasons of his death.

I don't like how I was treated
I began going to a gynecologist and was very happy with her. Then they started adding another doctor whom I did not like and who hurt me during an attempted biopsy. University of Chicago Health insisted I see this new doctor despite that I said over and over again that I didn't want to be rude but I did not want to see that provider. The nurses insisted. They said if I didn't want to see that doctor to go elsewhere even though they have plenty of other doctors. It's bad enough having a medical problem but to be harassed into seeing a doctor, is just the worst.

I used to work at University of Chicago when it was an outstanding hospital
Well it’s not anymore, I can’t believe how this hospital has changed. I came to the ER for treatment and the wait time is over ten hours. People have been waiting fourteen or more hours to be seen. This is ridiculous! I will never come back to this hospital. If you want caring and good service don’t come here.

Their website said a 54 minute wait, 4 hours later vomiting in the waiting room
Their website said a 54 minute wait, 4 hours later after vomiting in the waiting room due to several brain tumors I have a genetic disease. I got a room. After all my tests, they discontinued my IV, They starved me, but finally gave me apple juice 17 hours later, NO FOOD even though the doctor approved me to eat. they don't have air conditioning and it was 113 with the heat index that day, they are very, very, disorganized, majorly UNDERSTAFFED and are severely overcrowded. They stick you in a room, and after they can't decide what to do with you, they put you in a hallway with all the other overflow patients in the ER! You will likely leave worse than you came in!

Horrible place
Wouldn't take roadkill there. Their doctors don't know how to fill out a death certificate. They call the county morgue to get help

No price transparency
UChicago Medicine is the only hospital I’ve been to that never tells you how much their services are going to cost you. Yet their customer support told me that it is my responsibility to find out the price in advance if I don’t want any “surprise” bills. Avoid this place if you can.

AN EXPENSIVE HOSPITAL TO GIVE BIRTH TO
I had a standard vaginal delivery and was given epidural anesthesia during labor. I stayed in the hospital for three more days as the baby was born at 36 weeks, and they would like to check her bilirubin levels. She was born with no complications and wasn't placed in an incubator. Even if the hospital is in-network, our bill amounted to $5,300 (CIGNA PPO), including professional fees from doctors and hospital room and board. If you are expecting a baby and considering where to give birth, please consider your options carefully. There are other hospitals that can provide the same level of care and expertise, without the hefty price tag. As a new parent, I wish I had known this before making the decision to give birth at this expensive hospital. Don't let the cost of childbirth overshadow the joy of welcoming your little one into the world.

Dishonest billing
The most disappointing experiences with any medical provider. I scheduled 2 appointments with a dermatologist for each of my 2 daughters was incorrectly charged. We arrived and were brought back to see the Dr. together. The Dr. and nurses were all great.... the problem was when I received the bill. They charged me 30-45 minutes and 45+ minutes for the visits. That would make you think we received 1.5 hours of service, or more. The problem is we were not there even an hour total. I called their billing department to appeal the charges. I was told it would be reviewed and I would be contacted when the appeal was completed. This never happened. I was contacted every month after this when I would receive a new copy of the incorrect charges. Oh, their version of contact is an automated phone message instructing me to call them. After sitting on hold when returning the call, I'd speak to a new representative who told me the appeal was still being conducted and I would be contacted when it was completed. Long story short, the only new information I received from UChicago was when they threatened to send me to collections for the original, INCORRECT charges. When calling them back, I was informed that they reviewed the charges and they were correct all along. In disgust, I paid these false charges (which I could have 6 months ago) because they decided they were accurate. I encourage anyone reading this to find another medical provider. Honest people like my family or yours should not have to pay for services they never received.
