What I witnessed left me genuinely alarmed
I visited the emergency room at Adventist Health Bakersfield on June 7, 2025, and what I witnessed left me genuinely alarmed — not just for my own safety, but for every patient in that facility. Multiple nurses were hooking up IV medications without wearing gloves and failing to disinfect the IV ports with alcohol before attaching new medication bags. This is not only careless — it’s a direct violation of basic hospital infection control standards. No gloves. No alcohol swabs. Just bare hands connecting meds directly into patients’ IV lines. I saw this happen to me and others nearby. One nurse in particular looked completely unprepared for a clinical environment: wearing Birkenstocks and appearing like she had just rolled out of bed or going on a target run— yet there she was, managing IV medications without any protective equipment or sterile technique. It was shocking. This kind of negligence puts every patient at risk for bloodstream infections and serious complications. I’m now considering getting a full panel blood test to rule out exposure to any infectious diseases, which is an expense and a mental burden no patient should have to worry about after receiving hospital care. Hospitals are supposed to be safe spaces. What I experienced felt like the opposite. If Adventist Health takes its mission of patient care seriously, this facility needs an immediate audit of its emergency room practices — and patients deserve answers.

This is by far the worst ER/staff in town
I would rate this with 0 stars if I could. I walked in with 7/10 abdominal pain and they wanted me to sit in the lobby and wait for triage, but I replied it’s painful to sit so I’ll stand as long as I can. Luckily it wasnt too long after that that the tech took my vitals and offered me a wheelchair while waiting (she is the reason for the 1 star) Although I was a lot of pain in sitting position, it was better than getting up and down and walking. I sat in the lobby in a w/c for another 30+ minutes before getting called for triage, where I was waiting for another 40 minutes before seeing a PA. After seeing her I was moved to the Southside, if you know you know, that is the worst ER . I told the PA again how painful it was to sit down and lying down was better, I even told the transporter so she found a recliner chair for me to sit in, however it wasn’t working as I would alternate between standing up for a bit in tripod position and sitting. At this point it was about 35 min after arriving and no one had acknowledged or was even there although my chair was #3 in front of the nurses station where I observed nurses and staff talking and laughing. Anyhow, I got up and walked over and asked if there was a mother chair I can it in or a bed and she said we do t have any. I explained how painful it was to sit down and said to her not everyone is able to sit, do you have a bed? Again she said no.Anyhow, I ended up asking for the house sup twice and they never came by to see me. How are there no beds available for patients who come in and are unable to sit down? And why do you have broken chairs on the floor.

The wait is insane
The wait to be seen and get a blood transfusion was 12 hours.

I came in and couldn’t no one offered me pain medication. I was sent home with pain and feeling the same as if I had gone in even after the blood draw and the lab work

The service was horrible
I couldn't breathe and was wheezing and a guy asked the doctor that I couldn't breathe and she said I was fine because my pulse was good. A Other things they took forever and they were talking doing there hair and people were sick. And it was the emergency room.

9 hours wait for what?
I was there in excruciating pain and I was there for a little over nine hours. I feel like I was just pushed to the side and then just told that I was badly bruised and sent home.

Super unethical or compassionate about my pains
Worst ER experience I have gone through, don't ever want to go back there. They show how much they don't care about the patients, they put you in uncomfortable places, you call and you call the nurse and nobody comes to see what you need. The doctor just did EKG and blood and that was it knowing that I kept complaining about my breathing. They sent me home with the same medication knowing that I had already told them that I was taking it currently and it wasn't working. Super careless about the patients and just want to get paid. No blankets, or comfortable place to put you and they took my wheelchair as they said they need it for other patients.

The E.R. staff... Ughhhh!
They are RUDE, Judgmental and overall, just very and Desensitized Humans! My boyfriend Christopher Bradbury with stage 3 cancer came in experiencing terrible back pain and he was treated LITERALLY like some pill junkie who they decided to ignore and make wait ALL DAY crying in their waiting room. And No, I'm not exaggerating this, check your records. And I get it, The E.R is faced with unmanageable situations and over time you start to Hate Your Job, seems like. So acknowledge it! Change it. Ask for a different position or something. All of the staff in E.R. are making Adventist Health look bad!

Ended up in the ER after surgery
After surgery, Every time I pushed the nurses button, I had to wait up to 30 minutes for help and answers. When I was finally discharged, I was very ill informed of who to call for help, what numbers, lots of things. I wasn't able to get a hold of anyone and ended up in the ER because the surgeon gave me too much gas and it's causing pressure around my heart.

Left me in a bathroom without nurse assistance light or cord
I have gone numerous times to this ER they are normally very helpful however the last two visits I have had there have been horrible. This visit I had to be wheeled in after a fall I had I had to use the bathroom the nurse wheeled me in and left me. There was no nurse assistance chord or anything I saw this happen with numerous patients in the er lobby area.
