Absolutely horrid stay I spent in their EMU
A 6 day long stay of failed IVs and bloodwork they abandoned due to my Ehlers-Danlos, which they told me that they'd have a vascular specialist in to help me but he never showed up. At one point a nurse ran out of gauze and used a napkin from my food tray to stop my bleeding! A strap and padding was also never put on my bed. Also, good luck if you have a UTI during your stay. I had times when I realized I had to go that I waited up to 45 minutes! I also had developed rectal bleeding and the nurse I mentioned it too said he'd pass that along to someone and nothing happened. I also experienced a brief burst of electricity during my stay and was, instead of being questioned, accused of using my phone on the charger. My charger was in a spot that I couldn't even reach. I also heard the nurses laughing at a patient who was experiencing non-epileptic seizures, claiming how they were fake. Non-epileptic seizures are real, uncontrollable seizures that are just not caused by epileptic activity. I was admitted on suspicion of either non-epileptic seizures or focal seizures and I felt terrible and uncertain hearing this kind of misinformation. Also, despite that, my doctors seemed to only be looking for signs of full bodied seizures, even though that's not what I went in there for. According to my boyfriend and caretaker—who I had to argue with the staff on the phone to let him stay in with me, despite being told my first call that it was fine—the nurses were constantly blocking walkways doing nothing but chatting and giggling. I also overheard nurses talking about using AI for note taking. They compared a tool they had at their disposal to "St Luke's version of Chat GPT." AI is known to make mistakes and especially in an emergent unit, this can be dangerous and shows a lack of care for error. The staff also often screamed at patients with compliance issues, often so loud that I could hear it with my door closed. I am filing complaints as I can and am looking to reach a resolution as I believe this lack of care puts countless lives at risk. Please do better!

The staff will treat you extremely poorly
Don't go here if you're having mental health issues, the staff either have no training or no care for mental health here.

Is this quality healthcare?
I'm 76 years old. My family practitioner is so heavily booked I must wait four months for an available appointment. I have a major health concern which took over two years to diagnose. If he was available this issue could have been settled much sooner. During this time I suffered MUCH pain and mental stress. St. Luke's says we have quality care. Senior citizens being unable to see their family practitioner sounds more like cruel and unusual punishment to me.

DONT COME HERE!
I come to visit a family member who is a CHILD admitted into this disturbing hospital. Nurses sit their gossiping, staring, and on their phones doing absolutely nothing. I go to make my family members bed only to find out she has been laying and sleeping in her OWN throw up overnight into the next day which was at exactly 2:30pm. No one changed the sheets. I was absolutely horrified by the neglect the nurses in the pediatric care. DO BETTER. I told them this is unacceptable and unprofessional ! All her food was cold and her milk was warm. Mind you at the time she was the ONLY child in there. 10 nurses none of you did nothing for a child? CRAZY.

The nurses are a joke and night mare
If you're in extreme pain drive the extra time and go to another hospital because, this staff truly does not give 2 shits about you . 45 min to 1 hour wait when asking for the simplest request. They never check up on you. Completely childish and 98% of these nurses should get there license revoked. Specially the African American nurses and I'm African American

Patients are expected to rest and heal not being disturbed by construction noise
My husband had major surgery at this hospital and while I understand that it is an older hospital and construction would be necessary to keep it functioning at top level, it is ridiculous that patients are expected to rest and heal while these massive drills are operating from early morning to the afternoon. It’s a very jarring sound that caused me to jump and woke my husband every time tried to rest. I am sure the sudden jolts didn’t help his blood pressure. The nurses and doctors were wonderful, however, I would make a suggestion that patients recovering from surgery be placed in quieter part of the hospital. He has another surgery coming up in the next 2-3 months and is already refusing to come back to this hospital.

Cancelled surgery and did not inform us
The anesthesiologist canceled my husband's appointment and never contacted us. We drove 40 miles and the hospital stated they didn't have him listed for surgery. So now he has to start all over.

Problems over the years with taking my parents there
I would give 0 stars if possible. Nothing but problems over the years with taking my parents & my aunt there. Fountain Hill facility is disgustingly filthy. I got my parents & aunt in with different doctors & they went to LVHN hospitals. Much better results. Better care & no hassles.

Not returning UNTIL the administration solves the nursing shortage crisis
With the nursing shortage I received very substandard care. I was threatened by a male nurse. I had to act as my own housekeeper while there. It was a very bad experience. I worked in the medical profession for 30 years and I would have been fired if I gave this level of care to anyone. There were some excellent nurse's aids. This hospital needs to solve the nursing shortage crisis. It's not the nurse's fault, and definitely not the patient's fault. I was on the Cardiac telemetry floor After being in the emergency department for 2 nights waiting for a bed I was told by nursing that I was lucky not to be in a bed in the hallway. I was brought in by ambulance for respiratory failure. The emergency room staff was very good very thorough. They were very professional. The nurses on the floor did their best but were spread TOOOOOOO thin. Until the administration solves this crisis, I will never enter any St Luke's hospital again.
