Very upsetting experience at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas
I am writing this review because my family and I are extremely disappointed with the care my father received after a serious freak accident last Saturday. My father accidentally cut off all of the toes on his left foot with a skill saw. This was an extremely traumatic and serious injury, and as his family, we expected him to receive immediate attention, compassion, and the highest level of care. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. When my father arrived in the emergency room, we felt as though his injury was being treated like it was not a serious emergency. He was left sitting in the hallway and, from our perspective, there was very little urgency or concern shown for the severity of his injury. As a family watching someone we love suffer from such a devastating injury, this was heartbreaking and extremely frustrating. Once he was finally moved into a room and later admitted to the sixth floor, the experience did not improve. There were periods where we felt like he was simply forgotten. At one point, we waited approximately four hours before anyone came into his room to attend to him. For someone who had suffered such a severe traumatic injury, we could not understand why he did not seem to be treated as a priority. My father remained in the hospital for five days, and during that time, we were also extremely concerned about how little food he was receiving. As his family, we constantly felt like we had to advocate for him and make sure someone was paying attention to his needs. What hurt us the most was the lack of urgency, compassion, and concern we witnessed. This wasn't a minor injury. My father had suffered a life-changing injury to his foot, and yet there were moments when it felt like no one understood the seriousness of what he had gone through. I understand that hospitals are busy, nurses and doctors have many patients, and emergencies happen every day. But when someone's foot has suffered an injury this severe, their family should not have to wonder whether anyone is concerned about them or whether they are receiving the attention they need. This review is not meant to attack every employee at Saint Elizabeth. It is meant to express how deeply disappointed and hurt we were by our overall experience. Patients deserve to feel seen, heard, cared for, and treated with urgency—especially when they are experiencing a traumatic, life-altering injury. I sincerely hope hospital administration takes this review seriously and looks into what happened, because no family should have to feel the way we felt while watching their loved one suffer. Saint Elizabeth Hospital, we expected better.
