Our experience left us feeling uncomfortable
My wife received care here during her pregnancy in [2025]. We are an interracial couple. During Maternal-Fetal Medicine visits, I observed conduct that made us uncomfortable. For example, at one appointment, the physician touched my wife’s thigh while I was present, which did not seem related to the exam. At a separate visit, an ultrasound staff member made a comment to my wife in the waiting area that felt inappropriate. We also overheard staff discussing patients in public areas. Near the end of the pregnancy, my wife developed a heart issue with a very high heart rate. The initial medication given by the emergency response team appeared to worsen it, and a cardiology doctor later adjusted the treatment. Induction of labor was pursued; we did not feel we were given a clear choice or fully included in that decision. At discharge, we were told my wife needed to accept birth control before leaving, which felt coercive. We reported these concerns to Patient Relations but did not receive a resolution that addressed the specific incidents. I’m sharing this to inform others and hope the hospital reviews training on consent, privacy, and bedside conduct.
